To celebrate Low Vision Awareness month during the month of February, we are shining a light on Low Vision with a giveaway of three desk lamps! As appropriate task lighting is often the key to better use of vision, we want to offer this opportunity to register to win one of three desk lamps. There are estimated to currently be 4+ million American over age 40 who are visually impaired. Of this number, roughly 3 million have low vision. The incidence is expected to continue to rise to over 7 million with visual impairment and 5 million with low vision by 2030. Chances are you or someone you know will be impacted by vision loss at some point in their life.
Low Vision occurs when even with medical intervention, glasses or contacts, people are left with reduced ability to see to preform day to day tasks such as cooking, reading, writing or shopping.
Vision loss occurring over the age of 65 may include age related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. In younger people, vision loss may result from inherited ocular pathologies, trauma or cerebral visual impairment.
Regardless of age, maximizing the use of remaining vision is the key to maintaining productivity and safety.
