One-on-One Services

Current clients of CABVI may request the services of a one-on-one volunteer. Our coordinator will try to match the interests and geographic locations of clients and volunteers, and assignments can be made on a once a week or once a month basis with the same volunteer. Volunteers are available to assist in a variety of ways, including:

  • Reading mail
  • Writing checks and filling out forms
  • Helping to label groceries and other items

Broadcast Reading Service

Every day, CABVI’s own radio station broadcasts 24/7 featuring daily news read from local newspapers and magazines. Popular programs include front page news, grocery store ads, obituaries, and editorials. We also read from national newspapers such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, covering sports, travel, health, recipes, and more.

The broadcast can be accessed online, via a special radio receiver, on cable TV, and on closed circuit TV systems in hospitals and long-term care facilities. Click below to listen now.

This program is intended for individuals who are blind or are unable to access physical print. It is brought to you by CABVI’s Audio Information Services Team.

Talking Books Service

Talking Books is a service of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), a branch of the Library of Congress. The service allows people who are visually impaired to listen to books and magazines recorded by professional narrators on a specially designed Talking Book Machine. CABVI partners with NLS to offer this service for free to individuals who have low vision, blindness, a physical disability, or other disabilities that make it difficult to read regular print. Facilities serving these individuals, such as retirement communities, nursing facilities and schools may also apply.
